South Africa against the jewish
provocative actions of "settlers".
JOHANNESBURG (Sept. 17/1997) XINHUA - South Africa today
called on Israel to take measures to prevent escalation of tension following
what it termed provocative actions of settlers who established an unauthorized
settlement in East Jerusalem.
The call was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement issued
in Pretoria.
The statement condemned the settlers' action, saying it was in conflict
with the spirit of the Oslo peace accord.
It was a blatant attempt to establish situation on the ground before the
outcome of final status negotiations between the Palestinians and
Israelis, the statement said.
It called on all parties to the peace process to desist from acts of
provocation calculated to endanger the stability and security of the
region.
